Conference hotel

We have a guaranteed block of rooms with a special rate at the Holiday Inn Hotel. Authors of accepted papers are kindly advised to book their rooms as soon as possible due to the presence of several events in the city of Johannesburg and to avoid any disappointment.

To make your booking at the Holiday Inn Hotel, all the guests are required to send an e-mail to Melissa (mpieterse@hi-rosebank.co.za) or Tsholo (tsholol@hi-rosebank.co.za).

Please mention the code WTU and ISPLC2013 in your booking request to get the special rate.

The room rate is:

  • ZAR 1250.00 per room per night for single occupancy,
  • ZAR 1450.00 per room per night for double occupancy.

The tourism levy is an additional 1% on the rate (ZAR 12.50 and ZAR 14.50 respectively). Note that the room rate includes breakfast.

The Holiday Inn (Rosebank) is a few meters away from the Gautrain station, the train that has a direct connection to/from the main international airport in Johannesburg.

Conference Venue

ISPLC2013 takes place in the School of Tourism and Hospitality of the University of Johannesburg.

During the conference days there will be a shuttle to transport the attendees between the Holiday Inn hotel in Rosebank and the conference venue on the Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus.

The University of Johannesburg has five, widely dispersed campuses. The distance between the Holiday Inn Hotel in Rosebank and the conference venue on Bunting Road Campus is about 8 km. Please note that the taxi fee between Rosebank and the conference venue is approximately R 150.00 and there is no public transport available.

Gautrain

The main international airport in Johannesburg is called O. R. Tambo International Airport. From the airport, you can take the Gautrain to Rosebank-Johannesburg.

When coming from the airport to Rosebank, the interchange station will be in Sandton (platform C to platform B). When coming from Rosebank to the airport, the interchange station will be in Sandton (platform A to platform C).

Time needed between the airport and Rosebank is ± 25 minutes.

Travellers need to get the GoldCard from the Gautrain ticketing station. It is a once-off procedure.

Visa
If you are required to apply for a Visa to travel to South Africa, and you need a Visa Assistance Letter, then you can follow the instructions at IEEE ComSoc's Visa Assistance. Authors of accepted papers can download the letter from EDAS. You can also contact your nearest South African Embassy or High Commission.
 
 
Weather
Climate of Johannesburg

Johannesburg features a subtropical highland climate. The city enjoys a dry, sunny climate with late afternoon thunder showers in the summer months of October to April. Temperatures in Johannesburg are usually fairly mild due to the city's high elevation, with the average maximum daytime temperature in January of 25.6°C (78.1°F), dropping to an average maximum of around 16°C (61°F) in June. Winter is the sunniest time of the year, with mild days and cool nights, dropping to 4.1°C (39.4°F) in June and July. The temperature occasionally drops to below freezing at night, causing frost.

Currency

The rand (sign: R; code: ZAR) is the currency of South Africa. The rand has the symbol "R" and is subdivided into 100 cents, symbol "c".

The current exchange rate is about 9 Rand to the USD, 12 Rand to the Euro and 14 Rand to the GBP.
